Skunkworks – Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

1. How do I report a bug?

If you encounter a bug, please follow these steps to help us investigate the issue efficiently:

  1. Take a screenshot
Capture a screenshot of the error message or unexpected behavior.

  2. Save the error details

    • If the error has a button Details, click on it and copy this information

    • Save this information in a .txt file.

  3. Export your configuration
Use the Skunkworks export tool to export your configuration and related data.
See the Export Tool documentation page for detailed instructions.

  4. Create a detailed description

    • Write down what you were doing when the issue occurred.

    • Include what you expected to happen and what actually happened.

  5. Send the files
Send the following to the Wasson ECE Email:

    • The exported .zip file

    • The .txt file with the error details

    • The screenshot(s)

    • In the email body, include the detailed description

Providing complete information significantly reduces troubleshooting time.

2. Can I connect two computers and back up Skunkworks analysis data?

Currently, Skunkworks does not include a built-in tool for synchronizing or backing up data between two computers.

However, you can:

  1. Connect both computers using an Ethernet cable (or via a local network).

  2. Share the Skunkworks folder over the network.

  3. Manually copy or back up the Skunkworks directory to the second machine.

This allows you to maintain a secondary backup of your data.

3. Where is Skunkworks data stored?

Starting from version v14.1.0, Skunkworks stores most data in a PostgreSQL database.

  • All configuration and structured data are stored in the database.

  • Result datapoints and logs are still saved locally as files.

For versions prior to v14.1.0, data was stored in flat files in the folder C:\Program Files\Wasson Ece\Skunkworks.

4. How do I upgrade my Skunkworks version?

Step 1: Create a Windows System Restore Point

Step 2: Identify your current version

Check which version of Skunkworks is currently installed.

If your version is before v14.1.0

  1. Navigate to: C:\Program Files\Wasson Ece\Skunkworks

  2. Create a backup:

  • Compress the entire folder into a .zip file.

  • Include the version number and date in the file name.

  1. Run the installer for the newer version and follow the installation steps.

If your version is v14.1.0 or newer

  1. Use the Export Tool to export:

  • All configuration files

  • The database

  1. (Optional but recommended) Create a backup .zip of: C:\Program Files\Wasson Ece\Skunkworks

  2. Run the installer for the new version.

5. How do I upgrade Skunkworks on a new computer and transfer all data?

Example scenario:
You have Skunkworks 12.0 on an old computer and want to install version 15.0 on a new computer while transferring all data.

Please follow the official migration guide:

Windows 10 Upgrade Documentation:
https://wassoneceinstrumentation.zohodesk.com/portal/en/kb/articles/windows-10-upgrade

In general, the process involves:

  1. Installing the latest Skunkworks version on the old machine.

  2. Backing up/exporting all data from the old machine.

  3. Importing the exported data into the new computer with the newest version.

Always verify that all data has been successfully restored before decommissioning the old computer.

6. Can I upgrade directly from one version to another?

Yes.

You can upgrade directly from any older version to a newer version without installing intermediate versions.

7. In which version was the database introduced?

The PostgreSQL database was introduced in v14.1.0.

Versions prior to v14.1.0 used flat files for data storage.

8. Can I view run results on another computer?

No, not directly.

Skunkworks is responsible for rendering the analysis graphs. Without Skunkworks installed and configured with the proper data, graphs cannot be interactively viewed.

However, a static image of the graph and some result data are available in the Report folder.
